An exciting full-time opportunity has arisen for an experienced and highly motivated Dental Lead Nurse/Registered General Nurse to become the Matron for the Royal London Dental Hospital Network, Oral and Maxillofacial services, Behcets, and Ophthalmology within the Surgery Division at Royal London Hospital. The Dental network comprises the Dental Hospital at the Royal London, Whipps Cross Hospital site, Sir Ludwig Guttman Centre, Barkentine Dental Outreach Centre, and Kenworthy Road Dental Clinic in Hackney.
The post holder will be responsible for leading, developing, and managing the nursing teams to deliver high-quality care experiences for patients. The successful candidate is expected to be highly visible within clinical times as an essential part of the role.
The Matron will be a friendly and supportive presence in the team, ensuring a safe, happy, and positive environment for all staff. The appointed candidate will work in partnership with the senior management team to ensure that services and divisions contribute to the achievement of objectives and that governance arrangements are maintained.
The post holder will work closely with divisional and site Matrons, Senior Nurses, Governance Leads, Practice Development Nurses, Clinical Nurse Specialists, Service Delivery Managers, and report directly to the Senior Nurse.
The Matron's role is to provide leadership that supports the team and ensures patient safety. Through strong clinical leadership, the Matron will support departmental staff to promote excellence in dental and nursing care, maintaining and improving standards. The post holder will ensure all patients are treated with compassion, dignity, and respect, valuing community diversity and promoting infection prevention through a clean environment.
The key responsibility is to ensure the highest quality patient experience, achieved through visibility, accessibility, and surveillance. The post holder will work clinically for 20% of their time (one clinical day per week) and may specialize in their clinical area where required.
The Clinical Directorate is led by the Clinical Director, operations by the General Manager, and nursing by the Senior Nurse. The Matron reports directly to the Senior Nurse, responsible for operational management and strategic nursing direction.
