Job summary

Prospero Teaching is seeking an experienced Maths Tutor to deliver after-school tuition in Barnet. The role involves 1:1 or small group sessions, helping students close gaps and build confidence to achieve GCSEs.

You will work with vulnerable learners, adapting lessons to meet individual needs with a patient, nurturing approach. Applicants should hold QTS or an equivalent qualification, have at least 1 year of teaching or tutoring experience, and be committed to safeguarding.

Qualifications

• QTS or an equivalent teaching qualification is essential.
• Minimum of 1 year's teaching or tutoring experience.
• Strong knowledge of the UK Maths curriculum.
• Experience working with vulnerable learners, including those with SEND, SEMH, behavioural needs or gaps in education.
• Ability to plan and adapt lessons to meet individual learning needs.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
• Recent safeguarding training, or willingness to complete Prospero Teaching's safeguarding training.

Job description

This role is ideal for an experienced tutor or qualified teacher who is passionate about helping young people improve their confidence and attainment in Mathematics.

As an After School Maths Tutor, you will deliver engaging 1:1 or small group sessions tailored to each student's individual needs. You will help students close learning gaps, strengthen their understanding of key mathematical concepts, and support their progress towards GCSEs and other qualifications.

The successful candidate will be working with vulnerable young people; students with SEND, SEMH, those at risk of exclusion, LAC. You will play a key role in re-engaging students with learning, building positive relationships, and supporting both their academic progress and overall confidence.

Contract Details

• Pay Rate: From £25 per hour (dependent on experience)

Requirements

The successful Maths Tutor will have:

• QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) or an equivalent teaching qualification - essential

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must:

• Have the right to work in the UK
• Hold an enhanced DBS certificate registered on the Update Service, or be willing to obtain one
