Job summary

Prospero Teaching is seeking an experienced Maths tutor to deliver engaging 1:1 or small group sessions after school in Barnet, helping students progress toward GCSEs. The role requires QTS or equivalent, at least 1 year of teaching or tutoring, and strong knowledge of the UK Maths curriculum; you will work with vulnerable learners and adapt lessons to individual needs.

A patient, flexible and nurturing approach is essential, with safeguarding training preferred or willingness to complete it.

Qualifications

Job description

This role is ideal for an experienced tutor or qualified teacher who is passionate about helping young people improve their confidence and attainment in Mathematics.

As an After School Maths Tutor, you will deliver engaging 1:1 or small group sessions tailored to each student's individual needs. You will help students close learning gaps, strengthen their understanding of key mathematical concepts, and support their progress towards GCSEs and other qualifications.

The successful candidate will be working with vulnerable young people; students with SEND, SEMH, those at risk of exclusion, LAC.

Contract Details

• Location: Barnet
• Position: After School Maths Tutor

• Hours: After-school sessions, typically between 3:30pm and 7:00pm
• Pay Rate: From 25 per hour (dependent on experience)
• Schedule: Flexible based on student availability

Requirements

The successful Maths Tutor will have:

• QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) or an equivalent teaching qualification - essential
• A minimum of 1 year's teaching or tutoring experience
• Strong knowledge of the UK Maths curriculum
• Experience working with vulnerable learners, including those with SEND, SEMH, behavioural needs or gaps in education
• Experience delivering engaging and effective Maths tuition
• The ability to plan and adapt lessons to meet individual learning needs
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
• A patient, supportive and encouraging approach
• Recent safeguarding training, or willingness to complete Prospero Teaching's safeguarding training

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must:

• Have the right to work in the UK
• Hold an enhanced DBS certificate registered on the Update Service, or be willing to obtain one
• Provide two professional references relating to work with children or young people
