Job description

Tradewind are Specialist Maths Teacher Required - Long-Term Role in Rochdale Pupil Referral Service (PRS)
Start: Autumn Term Location: Rochdale Role: Full-time

Tradewind Recruitment is delighted to be working with a forward-thinking Pupil Referral Service (PRS) in the Rochdale Borough, supporting their search for a committed and enthusiastic Maths Teacher for a long-term position starting this autumn term.

From September the PRU will be based on one site in Rochdale and provides crucial educational support for young people from Key Stage 3 to Key Stage 4, many of whom have experienced barriers to learning due to social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs. This is a fantastic opportunity for a maths specialist who is passionate about inclusion and ready to make a lasting difference in the lives of some of the borough's most vulnerable students.

About the Role

As a Maths Teacher in this PRS, you will play a key role in developing pupils' numeracy skills, preparing them for GCSE Maths and other Key Stage 4 qualifications. In addition to traditional curriculum content, you will also deliver practical, real-world maths education - including financial literacy, budgeting, and managing income as an adult - helping students build skills that are essential for independence and future success.

You'll be teaching smaller class sizes in a highly supportive environment, where strong relationships, consistency, and compassion are the foundations of progress.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, deliver and assess accessible, engaging maths lessons for learners in KS3 to KS4, including GCSE Maths and Functional Skills qualifications
  • Promote core numeracy development and support learners in catching up on missed or disrupted education
  • Deliver practical maths content, including financial education, personal budgeting, income management, and understanding the cost of living
  • Use trauma-informed, relationship-based approaches to engage learners who may have become disaffected with school
  • Work with pastoral teams, SENCOs, and support staff to meet pupils' individual learning and emotional needs
  • Create a positive and inclusive classroom culture that encourages resilience, responsibility and independent thinking
  • Monitor pupil progress, track attainment and provide clear, constructive feedback
  • Contribute to a wider team ethos focused on emotional development and re-engagement with learning

To be successful in this PRS Maths Teacher role, you will need:

  • QTS or QTLS status
  • Recent experience teaching maths to students aged 10-16, ideally within alternative provision, SEMH settings or PRUs
  • A sound understanding of GCSE Maths and Functional Skills specifications
  • Confidence in delivering practical maths content including financial and real-life numeracy applications
  • Strong classroom management and the ability to build trust with vulnerable learners
  • A detailed CV with full education and employment history, including explanations for any gaps
  • Enhanced DBS Disclosure, professional references, and legal right to work in the UK
