Job description

  • Psychology Teacher required for a January start

  • Well-regarded secondary school in Peterborough

  • Opportunity to teach Psychology within a supportive academic environment

  • Ideal for an enthusiastic teacher who enjoys developing students' critical thinking and research skills

Our client is seeking a motivated and engaging Psychology Teacher to join a successful school in Peterborough from January. This position offers an excellent opportunity for a teacher with a genuine interest in human behaviour, cognition and psychological research to inspire students and help them develop a deeper understanding of the subject.

The successful candidate will be able to communicate complex psychological theories clearly, encourage students to question evidence and develop lessons that connect theoretical knowledge with real-world examples. The school is particularly interested in candidates who can create an engaging learning environment in which students feel confident participating in discussions, evaluating research studies and developing their written arguments.

Applications are welcomed from experienced Psychology Teachers and suitably qualified ECTs. Candidates with experience of A-Level Psychology will be particularly well suited to the role, although the precise teaching allocation will depend on departmental requirements. A strong understanding of examination assessment objectives and the ability to prepare students for demanding written assessments would be an advantage.

Psychology is a subject that encourages students to explore memory, attachment, social influence, mental processes and individual differences. The successful teacher will help students develop the skills to interpret research, consider different perspectives and evaluate the strengths and limitations of psychological explanations. The school is looking for someone who can combine strong subject knowledge with enthusiasm, clear explanations and effective classroom practice.

School Information:

Based in Peterborough, the school offers a structured and supportive environment with a commitment to student progress, positive behaviour and high academic expectations. Staff are encouraged to work collaboratively, share resources and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement.

The successful Psychology Teacher will become part of a team that recognises the value of developing independent learners who can approach unfamiliar material with confidence. The school aims to provide students with opportunities to develop transferable skills, including critical thinking, evidence-based reasoning and effective communication.

This is an excellent opportunity for a teacher who wants to contribute to a positive learning environment while helping students prepare for further study, university applications and future careers.

Responsibilities:
  • Plan and deliver stimulating Psychology lessons aligned with the relevant examination specification.

  • Explain psychological theories, concepts and research methods using accessible examples and structured activities.

  • Develop students' skills in research evaluation, essay writing and critical analysis.

  • Monitor attainment through regular assessment, feedback and examination practice.

  • Provide targeted support and appropriate challenge to meet individual learning needs.

  • Maintain high expectations for behaviour, participation and independent study.

  • Contribute to departmental planning, resource development and curriculum improvement.

Experience and Qualifications:
  • A relevant teaching qualification, with QTS where required.

  • Strong academic knowledge of Psychology and its principal theories and research methods.

  • Experience teaching or training in a secondary or sixth-form environment is desirable.

  • Excellent communication and classroom-management skills.

  • A commitment to student progress, safeguarding and professional development.

  • Legal right to work in the UK.
