Job Type: Full-time, Temporary with the potential to become permanent (depending on fit and performance)Working Hours: 8:30 AM - 3:00 PMSalary: Competitive, dependent on experience
About the Role:
Hays Education is seeking a passionate and resilient Maths Teacher to join a well-established Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in Oldham. This school caters to pupils aged 10 to 16 who are unable to access mainstream education due to various reasons, including challenging behaviour, permanent exclusion, or medical conditions. The school provides Day 6 provision for secondary school-aged children who have been permanently excluded. It offers both short-term placements aimed at reintegration into mainstream settings and longer-term placements to support suitable post-16 destinations. The school is committed to improving pupils' attendance, mental health, and wellbeing, and reducing the risk of involvement in serious youth violence. Pupils benefit from working with a range of specialists depending on their needs.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver engaging and effective Maths lessons to pupils with complex needs.
  • Manage and support pupils with very challenging behaviour.
  • Develop and implement strategies to help pupils reintegrate into mainstream education.
  • Work closely with a multidisciplinary team to provide holistic support to pupils.
  • Foster a positive and nurturing atmosphere that encourages pupil engagement and development.
Key Requirements:
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
  • Experience teaching Maths, preferably in a PRU or similar setting.
  • Strong classroom management skills and the ability to handle challenging behaviour.
  • Patience, empathy, and a good sense of humour.
  • A genuine passion for educating students and transforming lives.
