Job summary

Abingdon and Witney College is recruiting a GCSE Maths Lecturer to join our ambitious team at Abingdon Campus. You will deliver high-quality GCSE Maths lessons, create engaging learning experiences, and track student progress to provide timely feedback.

The role is fixed-term until September 2027, part-time up to 20 hours per week, with weekday teaching hours between 09:00 and 17:00. We seek a creative practitioner who can motivate learners, foster inclusion, and work toward a teaching

Qualifications

  • Experience teaching GCSE Maths, ideally within a post-16 setting.
  • Hold a degree in a relevant subject.
  • Have a teaching qualification or be willing to work towards one.
  • Commitment to safeguarding, equality, diversity and learner wellbeing.
  • Able to engage and inspire learners in Mathematics.

Education

Degree in Mathematics or related subject
Teaching qualification or working towards one

Job description

Salary: £28.62 - £37.08 per hour

Hours: Up to 20 hours per week

Working Pattern: Weekdays, with teaching hours between 0 9:00 and 17:00

Location: Abingdon Campus

Contract Type: Fixed term until September 2027

  • Has a genuine passion for teaching Maths and helping young people succeed.
  • Is an engaging and creative practitioner who is prepared to try new approaches.
  • Understands how to motivate and inspire learners who may have previously struggled with Maths.
  • Has experience teaching GCSE Maths, ideally within a post-16 setting.
  • Can build positive relationships and create an inclusive learning environment.
  • Has excellent communication and classroom management skills.
  • Holds a degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant subject.
  • Holds a teaching qualification or is willing to work towards one.
  • Is committed to safeguarding, equality, diversity, and learner wellbeing.

Any successful candidates will be required to complete a structured training pathway, unless they already hold the relevant qualifications. This includes a two-week teacher induction, followed by the Award in Education and Training (AET), and then the Level 5 Learning and Skills Teacher (LST) apprenticeship. There is also the option to pursue Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) at a later stage.
