Job summary

Prospero Teaching is seeking an experienced Maths & English Tutor in North Tyneside to support vulnerable students with 1:1 tailored lessons during school hours. You will create, plan and deliver personalised tuition, monitor progression and submit weekly reports, end-of-term reports and Individual Learning Plans.

The timetable can be full or part-time to fit your availability. The role requires experience tutoring Maths and English; right to work in the UK; DBS check; and references.

• Experience tutoring Maths and English 1:1 or small groups.
• QTS is desirable but not essential.
• Creative, patient and able to engage disengaged learners.
• Be eligible to work in the UK and able to provide references.

Responsibilities

• Create and deliver 1:1 tailored Maths/English lessons.
• Monitor pupil progress and submit weekly and end-of-term reports; develop ILPs.
• Build and adapt timetables for full or part-time placements.
• Support pupil re-engagement and return to school with structure.

Job description

Maths & English Tutor - North Tyneside

Up to GBP30 per hour

Prospero Teaching are looking for an experienced, passionate and patient Tutor to help vulnerable students with their Maths & English. As part of this role, you must be able to create, plan and deliver 1:1 tailored lessons as a means of alternate education for young people who are not currently attending an education placement. The goal of tuition is to support and re-engage a pupil in their learning, offer structure back into their daily routine, continue their educational development and aid their return to school. Patience is a key attribute as young people may have a prolonged period out of education or may have Social Emotional and Mental Health needs and a negative relationship with learning.

Tuition is replacing school for these young people and is usually 6 hours per week for each student, taking place during school hours. Prospero will work with you closely to monitor the progression with each pupil by asking you to submit weekly reports, end of term reports and Individual Learning Plans. We can accommodate full or part time hours, building your timetable with the number of students you are looking for.

Information about the role

• Ongoing placement, or until the young person returns to school
• Hours dependent on the young persons needs
• GBP25 - GBP30 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications

The desired candidate will have

• Experience tutoring Maths and English on a 1:1 or small group basis
• QTS is desireable but not essential
• Be creative, patient and willing to think outside of the box
• Have experience working with challenging behaviour and disengaged pupils

What we need from you

• Hold a right to work in the UK
• Hold an enhanced child barred list DBS certificate registered with the online update service or be willing to complete a new application
• Provide references to cover the last two years of employment
• The ability to commit to the young person and work for the duration of the placement
