Qualifications

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced and compassionateMaths Teacherto join our team, working withKS3 and KS4 studentswithSpecial Educational Needs (SEN)andSocial, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH)challenges. This is an exciting and rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the academic and personal growth of students who may have experienced barriers to learning in mainstream settings.

As aMaths Teacherat EdStart, you will be responsible for delivering differentiated, engaging lessons that meet the individual needs of students with a variety of academic and emotional challenges. You will help them not only to succeed in Maths but also to build their confidence, resilience, and social-emotional skills.

Key responsibilities:

  • To maintain a thorough and up-to-date knowledge of the teaching of your subject(s) and take account of wider curriculum and pastoral developments which are relevant to your work.
  • To plan tutorials, activities, lessons and sequences of lessons to meet students’ individual learning needs.
  • To use a range of appropriate strategies and follow schools policies for tutoring, teaching, behaviour management and classroom management
  • To do all you can, involving parents and other agencies, to ensure that as a result of your tutoring and teaching you promote the health, safety, economic wellbeing and achievement of your students.
  • To assess, monitor and record the progress of students in your teaching and tutorial groups and give them clear and constructive feedback.
  • To set well-grounded expectations for students in your teaching and tutorial groups using information about prior knowledge and previous attainment, making progress as good as or better than similar students nationally.
  • To take responsibility for your own professional development and use the outcomes to improve your tutoring and teaching and your students’ learning.
  • To make an active contribution to the policies, aspirations and plans of learners, working as part of the EdStart teaching staff

Required Skills & Experience

  • Adegreein Mathematics or a related subject, withPGCE or equivalent
  • At least 2 years’ experiencein teachingMathspreferably toKS3 and KS4 students
  • Strong ability todifferentiateteaching methods to meet the needs of students with a range of academic and emotional challenges.
  • A passion for working with students withSENandSEMH, and a commitment to their academic, emotional, and social development.
  • Experience usingbehaviour managementstrategies to support students with challenging behaviours.
  • Excellentcommunicationskills, with the ability to engage students, parents, and colleagues in a constructive and supportive manner.
  • A patient, empathetic, and solutions-focused approach to teaching and supporting students.

  • Student Engagement: Foster a positive, engaging classroom environment where students feel confident in tacklingMathschallenges, regardless of their academic starting point.
  • Differentiated Learning: Use a range of teaching methods and resources to accommodate the diverse learning needs of your students, ensuring that every student can access and progress in theMathscurriculum.
  • Assessment & Feedback: Regularly assess students’ understanding of Maths concepts, providing clear and constructive feedback to guide their improvement.
  • Behavior Management: Implement clear and consistentbehaviour managementstrategies to maintain a positive and focused classroom environment.
  • Collaboration & Communication: Collaborate effectively with colleagues, includingSENCoand teaching assistants, to ensure the best outcomes for students. Communicate regularly with parents and carers to keep them informed of their child’s progress.
  • Professional Growth: Engage fully inCPD (Continuing Professional Development)to stay up-to-date with best practices in teachingMathsto students withSENandSEMH.
