Job summary

Avanti Grange is seeking an ambitious and inspiring Director of Mathematics to lead the mathematics department, accountable for teaching quality and student outcomes, building a curriculum that develops fluency, reasoning and problem-solving from Year 7 onwards.

As the school opens in Bishop’s Stortford in September 2027, you will shape post‑16 mathematics, establishing a coherent curriculum from Year 7 to Year 13, sit on the Extended Leadership Team, and take on up to two whole‑school

Qualifications

• Qualified to degree level in mathematics with QTS.
• Sustained track record of excellent mathematics teaching and leadership as Head of Department or equivalent.
• Expert subject knowledge and ability to raise teaching quality through coaching.

Responsibilities

• Set vision and direction for mathematics; own department development plan and outcomes.
• Lead an ambitious, sequenced curriculum and assessment model across key stages.
• Develop a high-performing team through coaching and professional development.
• Contribute to whole-school leadership as part of the Extended Leadership Team.
