Job description

We have an exciting role for a Math Modeller to work within the Lethality and Requirements Authority team. You'll be working with a team of 25 skilled engineers involved in modelling and lethality performance assessment, and the specification of lethal packages, which are comprised of Fuzing and Warhead sub-systems.

Salary

Circa £51,000 - £59,000 depending on experience

Working Arrangement

Hybrid working: 3 days per week on-site due to workload classification

Security Clearance

British Citizen or a Dual UK national with British citizenship. Restrictions and/or limitations relating to nationality and/or rights to work may apply. All successful candidates will need to undergo HMG Basic Personnel Security Standard checks (BPSS), managed by the MBDA Personnel Security Team.

The Opportunity

As a Math Modeller within the Complex Warhead Centre of Excellence (CW CofEx), you will report to the Head of Lethality. Your activities will include developing lethality modelling, performance algorithm optimisation, and data analysis tools with visualisation (primarily in MATLAB) to analyse model results.

The Lethality Modelling group is a growing department of approximately 25 people, focusing on performance assessment models and analysis tools for large data sets. The department is involved in research projects, internally funded or in collaboration with external partners.

Candidate Requirements
  • Degree in a numerate discipline
  • Experience in mathematical modelling
  • Proven track record of delivery
  • Strong problem-solving skills and strategic thinking
  • Ability to build relationships with customers and partners
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead studies to improve weapon performance
  • Innovate to meet emerging needs and participate in research programs
  • Own missile kill probability calculations and coordinate with related domains
  • Collaborate with subcontractors and in-house teams for quality development
  • Engage with MoD technical teams and research agencies
  • Present capabilities to internal and external audiences
