Glendale Community College: Math Learning Coach

The work of Math Learning Coach is centered on promoting the academic success, persistence, and personal growth of Math students enrolled at GCC. This position is not a tutoring position, but to help promote the self-efficacy of students as they progress through their math course work. The Math Learning Coach will mentor and educate students on a variety of topics, including (but not limited to):

  • Mentor and support math students who may be struggling with the non-content side of learning – such as staying organized, overcoming math anxiety, and managing study time effectively.
  • Facilitate one-on-one and small group sessions focused on developing academic skills that support success in math.
  • Provide guidance on how to communicate with math instructors, connect with academic resources, and utilize campus services.
  • Help students with a mindset around learning mathematics, tracking progress, and staying accountable throughout the duration of their math courses.
  • Encourage growth mindset and model effective learning strategies, particularly for students who may feel discouraged or disconnected from math.
  • Lead interactive workshops throughout the year on topics like effective study habits for mathematics, time management, and communication.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support math students learning and success both inside and outside the classroom.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Third year undergraduate status or higher in good standing
  • Majoring in: Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, Behavioral Studies, Education, Mathematics, Communications, or related field
  • Ability to work 15-20 per week in person on the GCC campus during scheduled hours
  • Preferred availability between 1:30pm to 5:30pm Mon-Thurs for the Fall 2025 semester (time frame negotiable)
