Job summary

The NHS is seeking a motivated Maternity Support Worker to join its Lincoln team. Job description

Fantastic opportunity to become a Maternity Support Worker(MSW) within Lincoln rotational team. You will support the team in all areas within the maternity unit.

Main duties of the job

The maternity support worker (MSW) will support a registered midwife or medical practitioner in the delivery of care to women using the maternity services. The MSW will be able to carry out a defined range of duties involving direct care in support of the midwife. The MSW under guidance will help and support the Public Health agenda by giving smoking, dietary and breastfeeding advice.

The ideal candidate should be motivated and committed to join a supportive, forward thinking team. Ideally they should already be working as a Band 2 Health Care Support Worker or something similar, with experience within the Maternity, Neonate or Paediatric services. Training and assessment will be provided to enable the candidate to provide the clinical duties as outlined in the job description. They will be supported during an induction period .

Please note you will be asked to provide your qualification certificate for NVQ level 3 in Health and Social Care (or equivalent). You will also be required to have a full driving licence and use of own car.

Role includes weekend, bank holiday and night working.

This will not constitute a formal merger of the two organisations, but will bring the Trusts together under a single Board and Executive Leadership Team, with the goal of improving the care that is provided to patients both in the community and in hospitals across Lincolnshire. Both Trusts will retain their separate statutory names and legal obligations.

The Group will be known as Lincolnshire Community and Hospitals NHS Group (LCHG).

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social care (or equivalent qualification)
  • GCSE Grade C or above in English and Maths(or equivalent qualification)
  • Completion of the Care Certificate
  • Working towards a relevant qualification ie on the apprenticeship programme
Previous Experience
  • Experience of working in a health care environment as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Experience of practice as a HCSW
  • Experience of working in an antenatal setting
  • Experience of working with mothers and babies in the postnatal period
  • Experience supporting mothers with breastfeeding
  • Experience of parenting skills
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Basic IT skills
  • Ability to work effectively under minimal supervision, as part of the multi-disciplinary team
  • Able to use own initiative to plan and prioritise own and delegated work tasks and activities
  • Good, clear telephone manner and customer care skills.
  • Knowledge of the importance of health and safety issues.
  • Competence in extended clinical skills
  • Evidence of recent study
  • Safeguarding training and involvement with planning care
Specific Requirements
  • To undertake specific training for MSW when appointed
  • Flexible/adaptable approach to working patterns
  • Ability to communicate with members of the public and health care providers
