Job description

This is a unique opportunity to work alongside the community midwifery team at Birmingham Women's Hospital, covering South Birmingham. We are looking for knowledgeable and passionate professionals to support women and families throughout their pregnancy and postnatal journey. Key Responsibilities:
  1. Provide specific clinical care tasks (e.g., urine samples, urinalysis, microbiological specimens, maternal observations, venepuncture clinics, newborn screening samples, carbon monoxide screening, basic support and advice, referrals to smoking cessation services, weighing babies, neonatal observations including bilirubinometer, home visits).
  2. Transport specimens.
  3. Report deviations from normal to the midwife.
  4. Take responsibility for infection prevention and control practices.
  5. Take emergency action to safeguard women and babies, including calling emergency services as needed.
  6. Provide basic public health advice and education to families.
  7. Assist mothers with practical baby care and feeding, including breastfeeding advice and sterilization/safe milk preparation.
  8. Support vulnerable women and families by signposting to appropriate agencies.
  9. Assist in restocking supplies and preparing pregnancy information materials.
  10. Provide interpreting services if speaking relevant languages.
  11. Communicate effectively with the midwifery and multidisciplinary team, women, and families.
  12. Document all care accurately and maintain confidentiality.
