ANNEX 21/DEVELOPMENT POST

Training/contract in accordance with Annex 21

75% of the maximum Band 4 £23,752.50 (pro-rata) (uplifted to Scottish Living Wage)

A rare opportunity has become available to join our highly motivated and friendly Community Midwifery Team as a Maternity Support Worker.

As a team we are committed to providing high quality, family-centred care to all birthing people and their families who access the services. The role involves working as a member of the community team under the supervision of registered midwives, delivering excellence in an array of clinical and caring duties. The varied scope and range of activities will include supporting antenatal care within the clinical environment and providing outstanding postnatal care both within the unit and at home supporting breast feeding and early years parenting. You will be a support for ensuring that women and babies are healthy and adapting well to family life. You will be expected to be able to escalate any concerns, be vigilant for the safeguarding and open to providing equality of care to all.

The Community Midwifery Unit is situated in Wick, the most northerly town on the east coast and within the beautiful county of Caithness with stunning scenery and dramatic coastlines. The town of Wick has a vibrant local community with many amenities including a supermarket, cafes, restaurants, takeaways, hotels and churches. There is a local High School in Wick and also in the nearby town of Thurso where there is also a college. The area provides the opportunity to enjoy village life, explore the rural lochs and both sandy and rocky beaches. There is the opportunity to partake in wild swimming or surfing or to relax and watch the local wildlife including seals, puffins, deer, otters and orca. Or the city of Inverness is a short 2 hour drive where you will find travel links and many shops and hotels.

Becoming part of this friendly and co-operative team will offer you work in a stunning location and embrace the unique challenges and opportunities presented by rural practice.

On appointment, a training period will be undertaken in accordance with Annex 21. The role will entail that you will be supported to develop a variety of clinical skills whilst undertaking the certificate of Higher Education Maternity Care Assistant course. This full time, fully funded, 1 year course is provided by the University of the West of Scotland. Practice placements will be within NHS Highland whilst theory will be delivered both online and on campus.

A full UK driving license is essential for this role.
