Job description

Job Description:

Element Materials Technologies is seeking to recruit a Materials Testing Engineer (Hydrogen) with expertise in material testing and characterization, focusing on hydrogen environments.

Based in our Hitchin laboratory, the Materials Testing Engineer (Hydrogen) will work closely with the technical lead to perform and develop various routine and non-routine testing, analysis, and technical investigations. The role requires proficiency in core technical and business skills, including mechanical engineering fundamentals and adherence to safety, conduct, and company policies.

This hands-on role involves laboratory testing of large components and small samples, customer interaction, project management, and technical report writing.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide technical and engineering leadership, supporting the development of new testing technologies.
  • Participate in the design, manufacturing, and installation of lab equipment.
  • Assist in the installation, commissioning, inspection, maintenance, and repair of equipment.
  • Support the professional development of technicians and engineers.
  • Set up and operate test machines for mechanical testing according to standards (e.g., ASTM, ISO).
  • Create gaseous/liquid environments for in-situ testing at pressure and temperature.
  • Analyze raw test data and prepare technical reports.
  • Ensure safety protocols are followed.
  • Plan and schedule testing activities.
  • Prepare project documentation and adhere to quality, health & safety standards.
  • Develop and document standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Skills / Qualifications:
  • Master's degree or higher in Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering with at least two years of relevant experience; BSc candidates with five years of proven experience are acceptable.
  • Knowledge of test machines, drives, and control technology.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD systems, including SolidWorks.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Strong analytical and computer skills.
  • Ability to apply academic knowledge practically within the company's context.
  • In-depth understanding of testing machines is a plus.
  • Flexible and capable of multitasking across multiple projects.
