United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) in Culham, Oxfordshire seeks a Senior Scientist in Materials to lead the development, testing and qualification of Cu-alloy heatsink materials for STEP plasma-facing components (PFCs). You’ll coordinate projects over £100k, collaborate with universities and industry, and present findings in high-impact publications.

The role focuses on materials reliability for fusion power plants and involves leadership of a small team.

Qualifications

• PhD degree in a relevant subject or equivalent learning.
• Significant research experience in a laboratory environment.
• Ability to communicate complex technical information to specialist and non-specialist audiences.
• Fluent written and spoken English.

Responsibilities

• Organise and lead short and long-term projects (£100k+).
• Deliver high-quality, novel research in nuclear materials.
• Present results in technical reports and meetings as a lead author.
• Provide materials requirements for fusion power plant operation.
