Job description

nC2 are a Consultancy Unit within the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences (FEPS) at the University of Southampton. We provide consultancy services for customers seeking solutions in the fields of tribology, surface science and materials engineering.

You will contribute to the successful delivery of enterprise projects as required by nC2 under the supervision of a project leader. The position will require laboratory experience to work on current projects using scientific methods. In addition, you will identify procedures, preparing tenders and work scopes to meet client needs and contribute to the marketing, quality management system and administration of nC2.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare tenders and work scopes in the field of materials science to meet client needs.
  • Work on a range of experimental and desk-based consultancy projects for customers in the fields of tribology, surface science and materials engineering.
  • Contributing to the production of high-quality technical reports.
  • Reviewing and assimilating data/information and technical reports produced by other members of the team.
  • Enabling successful interactions with customers, including presentation of key results and their interpretation in the context of client’s needs.
  • Carrying out business development activities contributing to the marketing, quality management system and administration of nC2
  • Delivering work to agreed timescales, quality and cost.
  • To be successful it is essential you have a PhD or equivalent professional qualifications with experience of working in a laboratory and in materials testing.
