About the role

Be part of this ‘once in a lifetime’ project that will deliver clean energy to 6 million homes for the next 60 years. Sizewell C will see the creation of a 3.2 Gigawatt nuclear power station on the Suffolk coast to provide reliable, low-carbon electricity.

The Civil Works Alliance is an extended delivery enterprise involving Sizewell C and three international construction companies: Balfour Beatty, Bouygues Travaux Publics, and Laing O’Rourke.

What you'll be doing

The Sizewell C (SZC) project requires a Senior Materials Engineer to support and manage all areas of construction materials testing (including but not limited to concrete, earthworks, aggregates, grout) for the marine and tunneling portion.

The role requires reviewing technical specifications, proposing suitable materials/solutions, and advising on appropriate means of ensuring an integrated design/specification that can support construction, including approvals, trials, and testing as part of the broader supply chain and procurement activities.

The successful candidate shall manage an experienced team of materials engineers, technicians, and consultants. They shall support and coordinate with external design consultants for the design of both permanent and temporary works for the development of materials and solutions, ensuring compatibility with existing designs and client specifications or informing their change if applicable. The project team includes internal and external stakeholders, including design consultants, temporary work designers, and subcontractors.

The purpose of the role is to support the management and delivery of materials engineering services within the Sizewell C Civil Works Alliance for the Marine and Tunnel portion.

Who we're looking for

• Must be degree qualified or have relevant professional experience in Civil, Structural, or Materials Engineering.
• Strong up-to-date technical knowledge of materials engineering and industry best practices in all aspects.
• Good understanding of concrete mix design and associated technical specifications.
• Understanding of principles of framework procurement and experience with current procurement methods.
