Could you be our Materials Handler in Reading, delivering high-performance material control and support in a fast-paced environment at Alstom? Your future role involves taking on a new challenge in Reading and applying your logistics and warehousing expertise in a cutting-edge rail industry setting. You'll report to the Materials Controller and work alongside a dedicated and skilled team in Alstom UK&I.

Day-to-day, working in a warehousing and logistics environment, you'll take ownership of key stores and logistics functions including goods receipt, material handling, and accurate stock management using the company's systems. You'll ensure material is delivered to internal and external customers on time, safely, and with full compliance to Health & Safety and quality standards.

You'll also play a key role in identifying improvement opportunities that enhance service levels, reduce costs, and support continuous improvement across the department. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Receiving deliveries and offloading materials using proper manual handling techniques
  • Checking quality and quantity of delivered goods against documentation
  • Processing delivery issues using the Non-Conformance Report (NCR) process
  • Accurately receiving materials into the management system and storing them correctly
  • Auditing and managing serialised materials and system stock levels
  • Picking, packing, and issuing materials to production and customers
  • Ensuring safe and efficient material movement across storage locations and sites
  • Conducting racking and equipment safety checks and audits
  • Completing documentation accurately and maintaining housekeeping standards (5S)
  • Proactively identifying and supporting improvement initiatives to enhance logistics performance
  • Ensuring compliance with all Health & Safety procedures and reporting any hazards
  • Liaising with internal departments to meet material requirements and resolve issues promptly

We value passion and attitude over experience. That's why we don't expect you to have every single skill. Instead, we've listed some that we think will help you succeed and grow in this role:

  • Experience within a stores environment
  • Knowledge of SAP and Maximo systems
  • Ability to liaise with other departments and suppliers
  • Ability to use IT tools such as Excel, Word, and MS Office systems
  • Valid manual handling certification (or willingness to complete training)
  • Forklift licence (desirable but not essential)
  • NVQ Level 2 or equivalent in Warehousing/Logistics (desirable)
  • A reliable team player with strong work ethic and attention to detail
  • Proactive and self-motivated with a continuous improvement mindset
  • Strong verbal communication skills and the ability to work under pressure
  • Flexible and adaptable to changing demands and priorities
