Job summary

Castle Employment Agency Ltd is recruiting on behalf of a well-established structural steel manufacturer for a permanent day shift Steel Handler / Yard Operative. The role involves handling heavy steel, using overhead cranes to load and unload from trailers, and keeping the yard tidy and safe.

Hours are Monday to Friday, 7am to 3pm, 37.5 hours per week with unpaid breaks. Pay is £14.00 to £15.53 per hour, depending on experience.

Responsibilities

• Loading and unloading structural steel from trailers using an overhead crane.
• Slinging and moving heavy steel sections safely.
• Moving materials from saws into workshop or external storage areas.
• Turning and repositioning steel sections within the workshop.
• Keeping production areas supplied to minimise downtime.
• Emptying workshop scrap bins using a forklift where required.
• Keeping the work area clean, tidy and safe.
• Providing occasional cover within the external stack yard.

Steel Handler / Yard Operative

Days | Monday to Friday, 7am to 3pm

£14.00 - £15.53 per hour

37.5 hours per week, unpaid breaks

Castle Employment are recruiting on behalf of a well-established structural steel manufacturer for an experienced Steel Handler / Yard Operative to join their team on a permanent day shift.

This role would suit someone who is confident working around heavy structural steel and has previous experience using overhead cranes to move, load and unload steel sections safely.

What you'll be doing:

• Loading and unloading structural steel from trailers using an overhead crane
• Slinging and moving heavy steel sections safely
• Moving materials from saws into workshop or external storage areas
• Turning and repositioning steel sections within the workshop
• Keeping production areas supplied to minimise downtime
• Emptying workshop scrap bins using a forklift where required
• Keeping the work area clean, tidy and safe
• Providing occasional cover within the external stack yard

What we're looking for:

• Previous experience using overhead cranes
• Confident slinging structural steel
• Experience loading and unloading structural steel from trailers
• Comfortable working with large and heavy steel sections
• Strong understanding of Health & Safety procedures
• Reliable and punctual
• Forklift, sideloader or shunter experience would be beneficial but isn't essential
