Materials Engineer - 27/05/01

Reports to: UK Technical Manager

Division: FTV Proclad International Ltd

Hours of Work: Full-time 37 hours a week (some flexibility required)

FTV Proclad International Limited is a worldwide market and technological leader in the protective weld cladding of pipeline components covering Oil & Gas, UK Ministry of Defense, and Renewables. The company is part of a larger group headquartered in Dubai and is one of the largest CRA providers worldwide.

We are pleased to announce an exciting opportunity for a materials engineer to join our engineering team due to growing order book success. The role is suitable for a motivated and enthusiastic engineer seeking a fast-paced environment. The candidate should have excellent technical experience, communication skills, be well-organized, and detail-oriented.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Review project technical specifications, drawings, purchase orders, and standards to ensure compliance during quotation.
  2. Liaise with clients and internal departments regarding materials engineering requirements.
  3. Provide technical support to the sales team during internal and external customer visits.
  4. Ensure all work scopes meet applicable product and quality standards.
  5. Support quality review forums to reduce rework, including creating performance dispositions, and identifying corrective and preventive actions for material/ bend quality issues.
  6. Assist in developing new and existing equipment.
  7. Support continuous improvement of bending procedures and policies.
  8. Translate drawings and design requirements into bend requirements and develop qualification methods compliant with relevant codes, standards, and client specifications.
  9. Prepare and review documents for production bending, ensuring all contract areas are addressed and recorded.
  10. Detail heat treatment requirements and review completion documentation.
  11. Develop, qualify, and apply bending procedures, ensuring their suitability for contracts.
  12. Control chemical, corrosion, and mechanical testing, assessing results per contract requirements.
  13. Review the suitability of bending equipment and advise on maintenance and calibration needs.
Essential Skills & Experience
  • Proven knowledge, skills, and experience in a similar role.
  • Minimum qualification: Material Science Technologist (Level 6), Materials Process Engineer (Level 7), or a degree in metallurgy, polymer science, biomaterials, ceramics, glass, or geology.
  • Excellent research and analytical skills.
  • Knowledge and experience of hot forming processes.
  • Understanding of materials standards.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
Desirable Skills & Experience
  • Membership of a professional institution (e.g., IOM3).
  • Previous experience in the Oil & Gas sector is desirable but not essential.
  • Working knowledge of Q-Pulse.
