Job Title: Materials Controller
Contract: On going
Location: Brighton
Sector: Rail Depot Parts / Logistics
Salary: Circa £35,000 PA
Hours: 37.5 hrs per week
Schedule: Monday to Friday days

Working with a global business at one of their many UK site locations, the Materials Controller is the primary interface between the depot team, Internal (SCM) / External Suppliers and the Customer. The Materials Controller supports the team delivering our material supply obligations at a depot level, dealing directly with the Customer, Coordinators and Materials Handlers to resolve issues as they arise in order to improve the effectiveness of the GTR Project Material Supply requirements and Customer Satisfaction by:

  1. Maximising material availability and minimising Liquidated Damages exposure.
  2. Identifying materials where information is limited.
  3. Maintaining a positive attitude and flexibility to achieve company / customers goals and priorities.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Maintain a professional demeanour that reflects commitment to quality, continuous improvement, and respect for individuals.
  2. Comply with all quality and safety requirements.
  3. Follow systems and procedures outlined by company / project manuals.
  4. Ensure Company policies & procedures are followed.
  5. Manage the day-to-day order book, dealing with PO queries, RFQs etc.
  6. Work with the Engineering team to decide liability for defects and repair costs.
  7. Mitigate UMD Liquidated Damages (penalties for nil stock items and unsatisfied demand).
  8. Conduct regular Material classification reviews.
  9. Manage material ordering & reordering MRP (Product & NPR) in line with appropriate specified processes.
  10. Receive and Sell Out Inventory in line with specified processes.
  11. Issue stock in line with specified processes.
  12. Process rotables (repairable items).
  13. Ensure materials are processed and controlled in accordance with the relevant Quality and Environmental Standards to include: Quarantine, Processing rejections / nonconformity and Shelf life.
  14. Monitor stock movement & behaviour and maintain inventory levels to ensure stock demands are successfully met.
  15. Expedite internal & external suppliers.
  16. Ensure regular Perpetual stock audits are conducted and recorded; investigate & resolve stock discrepancies.
  17. Manage all SAP Processes for materials.
  18. Produce daily information/feedback to the Materials Manager, Engineering & Production teams.
  19. Take ownership of Materials Management tools.
  20. Cover for the Materials Manager when required.
  21. Provide the relevant information/reports in a timely manner for the Project Governance process.

Financial Control:

  1. Support all necessary actions to manage cost and improve profitability.
  2. Identify Risk and Opportunity.
  3. Maintain a safe work environment and ensure the maintenance and upkeep of the physical location.
  4. Ensure the office is left in a suitable condition for other staff.
