Job summary

Thornbury Hospital in Sheffield, part of Circle Health Group, is seeking a Materials Assistant to join the Materials department on a bank basis. This role covers on‑call shifts and provides cover during busy periods and staff leave.

You will handle day‑to‑day stock management, order processing, replenishment of pre‑approved stock, and maintenance of department records, while delivering a high‑quality materials service to internal customers.

Qualifications

• GCSE/Level Mathematics and English or equivalent.
• Proficiency in using a PC including Word and Excel.
• Ability to work on own initiative without close supervision.
• Customer service skills and good communication.

Responsibilities

We have an opportunity for a Materials Assistant to join their team of staff in the Materials department.

This is a bank role working on an \"as and when required\" basis, you will be required to supplement staffing levels during busy periods and provide cover for existing staff in times of annual leave or absence.

Duties of this role include:

• You are an active member of the Materials Department, involved in the day to day running of the department.
• Provide an effective and high-quality materials management service to all internal customers.
• Ensure stock availability through the correct order processing and replenishing of pre-approved stock and products for central stores or on behalf of hospital departments.
• Maintain all departmental paperwork and files in good order with reference to accuracy, appropriateness and availability.
• You comply with all relevant mandatory training.

Applicants should meet the following criteria:

• A minimum of GSCE/O level Mathematics and English or equivalent.
• Proficiency in the use of a PC, including the use of software and systems such as Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.
• Able to work on own initiative without close supervision.
• Customer service skills.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
