Job Title: Material Planner – Electric Vehicle (EV)

Location: Oxfordshire

Department: Supply Chain

Job Description

We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Material Planner to join our dynamic team in the fast-growing Electric Vehicle (EV) sector. The successful candidate will report to the Supply Chain Manager or Materials Manager and will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth flow of materials through our production process. Responsibilities include planning, scheduling, and coordinating material requirements to meet production goals, maintain optimal inventory levels, support just-in-time delivery, and drive supply chain efficiency in line with sustainability and innovation goals.

Responsibilities
  1. Develop and manage material requirement plans (MRPs) based on production schedules, sales forecasts, and inventory targets.
  2. Collaborate with procurement, engineering, production, and logistics teams to ensure timely delivery and availability of materials.
  3. Monitor inventory levels and implement strategies to reduce excess and obsolete inventory while avoiding shortages.
  4. Analyze and mitigate supply chain risks by identifying potential shortages or delays and taking corrective actions.
  5. Maintain accurate ERP/MRP system data, including lead times, order quantities, and inventory levels.
  6. Track supplier performance and coordinate with procurement to resolve material supply issues.
  7. Support new product introduction (NPI) planning and coordinate phase-in/phase-out of materials.
  8. Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to enhance material planning processes and supply chain resilience.
  9. Ensure compliance with environmental and sustainability standards in sourcing and material usage.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, logistics, business administration, engineering, or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications
  • APICS CPIM/CSCP certification.
  • Experience with supply chain analytics tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau).
  • Understanding of sustainable sourcing and circular supply chain practices in the EV industry.
Skills and Experience
  • Strong understanding of MRP/ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, or equivalent).
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and JIT inventory strategies.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience in material planning, production planning, or supply chain operations, preferably in the automotive or EV industry.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills across cross-functional teams.
  • Familiarity with EV components (e.g., batteries, power electronics, electric drivetrains) is a plus.
