The Science Museum Group is hiring a Masterplan Programme Coordinator (FTC until March 2028) to provide vital administration for the Masterplan programme at the Science Museum in London.
This fixed-term role (35 hours weekly) offers hybrid working with at least 40% on site, supporting governance forums and coordinating reporting with colleagues and external stakeholders.
Location: City of London, London
Category: Buildings and facilities
Salary: Up to £31000 per annum + Fixed term until March 2028
Contract type: Contract Temporary
Hours: Full time
Telephone: 01904 685795
Are you experienced in supporting live projects, supporting meetings and keeping the detail right?
The Science Museum Group (SMG) incorporates the Science Museum in London; the Science and Industry Museum in Manchester; the National Railway Museum in York; Locomotion in Shildon; the National Science and Media Museum in Bradford; and the Science + Innovation Park in Wroughton.
SMG has an ambitious Masterplan programme of capital projects in development across all its sites. The programme will transform our buildings, public spaces and facilities into welcoming and inspiring places to visit and work. Across the Group we combine a strong visitor focus with high standards of design, as embodied in Medicine: the Wellcome Galleries, and Technicians: the David Sainsbury Gallery at the Science Museum. We currently have several live Masterplan projects at the Science Museum, and several more in development; it is an exciting time to join the Masterplan team!
The Masterplan Programme Coordinator will provide administration and office management support to the Science Museum Masterplan programme, as well as supporting the secretariat function for Masterplan governance forums. You will be part of a small team managing a big, busy programme. The role will work closely with museum colleagues and external stakeholders to ensure reporting requirements are met and the delivery of the programme's objectives and outputs are in line with Science Museum Group and Masterplan programmes and procedures.
This is a fixed-term contract until March 2028, 35 hours per week, based at the Science Museum in London, with hybrid working available in line with our standard arrangements - you'll spend a minimum of 40% of your working hours on site, though there may be periods where project activity means you're on site more often.
We're keen to see applications from candidates who are highly organised, and who are as good at protecting other people's time as they are their own. You'll be coordinating meetings, reporting deadlines and diaries across a busy programme, so we want to hear from people who can hold several things at once, judge what needs doing first, and stay organised when priorities shift at short notice. Some exposure to live projects would set you up well here, whether that's in a museum, construction, property or another sector entirely. What matters is that you've worked somewhere things move, deadlines are real, and plans change.
Accuracy is the other thing we're looking for. A lot of this role is detail work that other people rely on: raising requisitions and purchase orders, collating reports, checking figures and facts before they go to a governance forum. You'll be the person who spots the inconsistency, queries the number that looks off, and doesn't pass something on until you're confident it's right. You don't need a finance background, but you do need the diligence to get the detail correct first time. You'll be comfortable with Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint, working with colleagues at all levels, and happy to manage your own workload while staying closely connected to a small team.
Open for All is one of the Science Museum Group's five core values and sets out our important aspiration to be a place for everyone. We are working hard to understand our organisation better and to develop a culture that recognises and values different backgrounds, mindsets, skills, experience, knowledge, and expertise. By having greater diversity, we believe that we will be a stronger and better organisation, capable to continue to Inspire Futures.
