About Us

We are a world-class visitor attraction and leading science research centre. We use the Museum's unique collections and our unrivalled expertise to tackle the biggest challenges facing the world today. We care for more than 80 million objects spanning billions of years and welcome more than five million visitors annually and 16 million visits to our website. Today the Museum is more relevant and influential than ever. By attracting people from a range of backgrounds to work for us, we can continue to look at the world with fresh eyes and find new ways of doing things. We employ 1100 staff in a variety of roles, all united by our vision of a future where people and planet thrive. We need everyone to have the passion and drive to help us with our mission to create advocates for our planet and inspire millions to care about the natural world.

Diversity and inclusion matter to us.

Our vision is of a future where both people and the planet thrive. Diversity is one of our core values and we strive to build a workplace where everyone feels a sense of belonging. All new staff who join us learn about the importance of diversity and inclusion to the Museum and how to contribute to creating an inclusive environment. We know we have more to do, but we are committed to ensuring that everyone who works at the Museum feels they can thrive and feel valued and respected.

About The Role

This is an exciting opportunity to develop your project management career within a complex and high-profile capital programme. You will work closely with experienced project managers, consultants, contractors and internal stakeholders, supporting project planning, governance, risk management, procurement and delivery through every stage of the project lifecycle. The role offers exposure to a wide range of disciplines and the opportunity to contribute to a programme that will shape the Museum for future generations. The key purpose of the role is to take on responsibility for the management of low to medium risk projects according to the Museum’s standard project management methodology and processes. In addition, the role supports some of the larger projects, programmes or portfolios by providing programme/portfolio office functions, such as updating plans, managing RAID logs, creating documentation and leading on stakeholder engagement activity. The post holder will also contribute to the development and continuous improvement of tools and guidance according to best practice and may be responsible for the co-ordination of Museum groups involved with overseeing projects, including providing secretariat duties.

About You

You will be an organised and enthusiastic Assistant Project Manager with experience supporting projects from initiation through to delivery. Ideally, you will have, or be working towards, a recognised project management qualification such as APM PMQ or PRINCE2, and will be keen to develop your career within the museum and heritage sector. You will have experience contributing to key project management activities, including the development of project plans, schedules, specifications, business cases, and other project documentation. Experience of working within a museum, heritage, cultural, or visitor-focused environment delivering Capital and Exhibition projects will be highly valued. You will be a proactive team player with excellent communication and organisational skills, able to build positive relationships with stakeholders, contractors, consultants, and wider teams. You will be comfortable coordinating project activities, supporting site-based works, managing competing priorities, and helping to resolve issues as they arise. With strong attention to detail and a flexible approach, you will thrive in a fast-paced environment and be proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook, with knowledge of Microsoft Project being advantageous.
