About the Role

Take on a dynamic Mast Mechanical Design Lead role at the forefront of real-world demands in the defence industry. Alongside ensuring operational excellence for our existing products, there will be opportunities to develop next-generation radar products to counter emerging threats and contribute to our strategy for new technology. Your daily tasks will be diverse and exciting, applying engineering principles across the entire development lifecycle as you help develop radar systems used to serve and protect us.

What You’ll Be Doing
  1. Provide expert knowledge through substantial experience to apply principles of systems engineering, ISO 15288, and your specialist mechanical engineering expertise to develop or resolve problems related to complex shipborne structures with integrated sensor configurations.
  2. Provide technical and business leadership, potentially leading multiple engineering teams, including management and cost control.
  3. Analyze, define, evaluate, plan, and deliver solutions meeting programme, business, and customer requirements.
  4. Interface with customers, suppliers, and other functions, acting as an engineering ambassador.
  5. Assist in developing engineering capabilities and monitor professional development to meet future discipline requirements.
Your Skills and Experience
  • Subject matter expertise in Mechanical Engineering: Structures and Finite Element Analysis (especially Static and Dynamic Shock and Vibration) or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to generate requirements and translate concepts into production-ready designs.
  • Proficiency with CAD and Mechanical Engineering Analysis, Modelling, and Simulation tools.
  • Experience leading large-scale complex system designs.
  • Knowledge of various engineering lifecycle models (e.g., Waterfall, Agile).
  • Higher education in a relevant STEM discipline or equivalent experience.
  • Chartered Engineer status or working towards it.

The Radar Systems Engineering Team

The Integrated Mast Mechanical Design Lead is a subject matter expert responsible for the conceptual development of future shipborne integrated mast structures designed to house multiple radars, sensors, communications systems, and ship services.

This role supports flexible and hybrid working arrangements. Our Cowes workplace is easily accessible from Southampton via a regular ferry and shuttle service.
