Job summary

South Yorkshire Combined Mayoral Authority in Sheffield is seeking a Project Manager to lead the Mass Transit Renewal programme, upgrading tram network, tracks, depots and passenger facilities, with a strong focus on reliability, safety and future readiness.

You’ll join the Transport Development and Capital Delivery team to deliver across portfolios including Mass Transit Renewal, Transport Capital Programme and Bus Franchising, ensuring projects are on time, on budget and compliant with

Qualifications

• A degree (or equivalent experience) in Project Management, Transport Planning, Civil, Highways or Transportation Engineering or Technology.
• Experience managing capital projects, even better in a transport or multidisciplinary environment and ideally in a local authority or similar complex setting.

Responsibilities

• Leading and managing projects through all stages — from planning and risk management to delivery and benefits realisation.
• Developing and maintaining project documentation including schedules, reports, risk registers, and cost forecasts.
• Managing budgets, contracts, and resources, ensuring value for money and timely delivery.
• Preparing and submitting business cases, ensuring alignment with governance and compliance standards.
• Collaborating with internal teams, local authorities, operators, and the public to ensure successful outcomes.
