Discover Surrey is seeking an experienced and driven Marketing Manager to join our team temporarily to cover a maternity leave. This individual will lead the implementation of Discover Surrey’s annual marketing initiatives, drive destination awareness, oversee the Marketing Coordinator, and manage the day-to-day execution of integrated campaigns.
This is a high-impact role suited to someone who is a strategic thinker, a skilled storyteller, and a confident project manager, with a strong background in destination or tourism marketing. The role will also contribute to the development of long-term marketing strategies and destination plans.
Responsibilities & Qualifications
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and support the Marketing Coordinator, providing mentorship, feedback, and direction on campaign delivery and daily marketing activities.
- Lead the implementation of Discover Surrey’s annual tactical plan and annual performance report, ensuring alignment with the organization’s strategic objectives and Five-Year Strategic Business Plan.
- Manage the development and execution of integrated marketing campaigns across digital, print, and traditional channels, with a focus on driving visitation and supporting tourism partners.
- Maintain and uphold Discover Surrey’s brand identity, ensuring consistency across all marketing platforms, materials, and messaging.
- Guide and oversee the creation of compelling content across platforms, including blog posts, newsletters, social media, website, and video, showcasing Surrey’s stories, people, and experiences.
- Lead the coordination of Discover Surrey’s media relations program, including pitching, preparing media kits, and assisting in hosting visiting journalists and content creators.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with local and regional tourism partners, stakeholders, and industry collaborators to support cooperative marketing and shared objectives.
- Support collaboration with Destination BC and other destination marketing organizations on travel media, trade, and promotional opportunities.
- Monitor, measure, and report on marketing performance, using analytics to evaluate campaign effectiveness and inform future tactics.
- Manage budget tracking and liaise with contractors and agencies, ensuring deliverables are met on time and on budget.
- Represent Discover Surrey at tourism functions and industry events, as directed by the Executive Director.
- Encourage creative thinking and innovation in all marketing efforts to elevate the destination’s visibility and impact.
- Other duties as needed in support of Discover Surrey’s destination marketing and development goals.
Ideal Candidate:
- A post-secondary degree or diploma in Marketing, Communications, Tourism, or a related field.
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a marketing management role, preferably within the tourism, hospitality, or destination marketing sector.
- Proven experience in developing and executing integrated marketing campaigns across digital and traditional channels.
- Experience supervising or mentoring staff, interns, or contractors, with the ability to provide clear direction and support.
- Strong understanding of social media platforms, content scheduling tools, and social media analytics.
- Demonstrated strength in writing, editing, and storytelling, with the ability to adapt tone and style across platforms and audiences.
- Knowledge of graphic design principles and tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite).
- Familiarity with CRM systems, email marketing platforms (e.g., Mailchimp), and marketing automation tools.
- Excellent organizational, time management, and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with experience working collaboratively with internal teams, community partners, and external stakeholders.
- A proactive, self-starting attitude and a demonstrated interest in tourism, travel, or destination development.
- Experience in media relations, including pitching stories to journalists and securing earned media coverage, is considered a strong asset.
- Flexibility to occasionally work evenings or weekends to support events, campaigns, or activations.
- Must hold a valid Class 5 driver’s licence, have access to a reliable personal vehicle, and hold a valid passport with the ability to travel within Canada and the United States.
Salary: $68,000
