As our new Marketing Communications Officer, you'll play a vital role in delivering clear, consistent, and compelling communications that help bring our strategy and values to life, both internally and externally.

Main duties of the job

What you'll do

  1. Create and deliver engaging internal communications that ensure our staff and volunteers feel connected, appreciated and aligned with our goals.
  2. Support our non-commercial teams with tailored communication advice and content, helping them reach their audiences and achieve their objectives.
  3. Contribute to the delivery of brand campaigns, PR activity, and external communications that raise awareness, inspire engagement, and enhance the Hospice's reputation.
  4. Collaborate with the wider Marketing team to ensure our messaging is joined-up, impactful, and aligned with our brand, fundraising, and strategic priorities.
About us

Set in the tranquil grounds of Willen Lake, Willen Hospice is the leading provider of specialist palliative care within the Milton Keynes area. We offer 24 hour / seven days a week palliative care to people who have advanced disease, caring for people in our Inpatient Unit which accommodates 15 patients and the local community. Our person-centred care is delivered with compassion and respect for people's wishes. We have an expanding Therapeutic & Wellbeing service offering Psychological Wellbeing, Social Care, Physiotherapy, Occupational and Complementary Therapy. Our dedicated Business Development teams and retail portfolio of shops raise vital funds to deliver this care.

Job responsibilities

We're looking for somebody with exceptional verbal and written communication skills, the confidence to build relationships inside and outside the charity, and excellent attention to detail. You will have a minimum of two years experience working in a marketing/communications/PR/internal communications role, ideally at a charity or Hospice.

You must be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and managing multiple projects and meeting deadlines. You will also have strong Microsoft 365 skills and if you have knowledge of graphic design tools, such as Canva or InDesign, even better!

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with strong storytelling, copywriting, and proofreading abilities.
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to adapt messaging for different audiences.
  • Able to build strong relationships at all levels, with well-developed influencing and networking skills.
  • Confident in managing external agencies and partnerships and representing the Hospice professionally.
  • Creative and innovative in using diverse communication tools and methods to engage audiences effectively.
  • An inspiring presenter with a high standard of written English.
  • Able to deconstruct, rewrite, and tailor messages for internal audiences, ensuring clarity and engagement.
  • Demonstrates empathy and sensitivity when communicating with service users and families.
  • Two years experience working in a marketing/communications/PR/internal communications/engagement role.
  • Charity sector experience/familiarity with Hospice care considered an advantage but not essential.
  • Experience with Microsoft 365 essential with strong knowledge of SharePoint in particularly.
  • Knowledge of graphic design tools/software such as Canva, Adobe suite desirable.
  • Experience developing written communications for print and digital media.
