Job description

Job Opening: Marketing Communications Manager (Contractor Role)

Location: Remote with international travel

Contract Type: Freelance / Contractor

Estimated Workload: Part-time (0.5 FTE)

Who We Are

Zhaga is a global consortium that brings together leading companies in the lighting industry to drive standardization and innovation in LED technology, founded in 2010. With over 600 members worldwide and more than 200 companies using our certification program, we work to develop specifications that promote interoperability, serviceability, and futureproofing of components used in LED luminaires.

We’re growing fast — our membership has increased by 13% in the past year — and we’re looking for a passionate Marketing Communications Manager to help us continue to raise awareness, build relationships, and strengthen our presence in the industry.

What You’ll Do

As Marketing Communications Manager, you will lead and execute Zhaga’s global marketing and communications efforts. You will:

  1. Develop and implement a global marketing strategy and action plan aligned with Zhaga’s mission and vision.
  2. Lead the Promotion Working Group (PWG): plan and coordinate meetings, manage agendas, follow up on actions, and represent the group in Steering Committee meetings. Perform as Chair of the PWG.
  3. Manage relationships with Marketing Communications Managers from key lighting industry associations and partner organizations to promote Zhaga and Zhaga liaison initiatives.
  4. Oversee Zhaga’s daily marketing operations, ensuring top-quality communication and consistent messaging.
  5. Work closely with and manage external PR and marketing agencies: coordinate campaigns, control costs, and measure results.
  6. Create and distribute marketing content such as press releases, newsletters, website updates, and social media posts.
  7. Organize and manage Zhaga’s participation in global trade fairs and conferences (including logistics, promotion, and member engagement).
  8. Regularly review and update Zhaga’s website content.
  9. Manage external service providers as needed.
  10. Work with and monitor activities with Zhaga’s Asia members, ensuring they work within Zhaga’s marketing rules.
  11. Be responsible for creating and costing out the Marcom yearly budget.

You will also be expected to:

  • Be available for face-to-face meetings and events (global travel required, approved in advance).
  • Stay within the annual budget and report any scope changes promptly.

What We’re Looking For

We’re seeking a skilled and motivated marketing professional who is:

  • Experienced in strategic marketing, communications, and stakeholder management.
  • Confident leading working groups and managing cross-functional teams.
  • Familiar with event planning and participation in international trade fairs (Europe, USA, Asia).
  • A strong communicator, fluent in English (both written and spoken), and experienced with global audiences.
  • Able to work independently and proactively in a distributed, international environment.
  • Experienced with working with consortia. This would be beneficial but not essential for the right candidate.
  • Able to bring new and fresh ideas to the consortia, and able to deliver them.

Knowledge of the lighting industry is a strong advantage.

Why Join Zhaga?

  • Work with a globally respected organization in a cutting-edge industry.
  • Collaborate with international experts and leading companies.
  • Enjoy flexibility in your work schedule and location.
  • Be part of shaping the future of lighting technology.
