Job description

We are delighted to partner with When You Wish Upon A Star, who, since 1990 have been granting the wishes of children living with a life-threatening illness. As they celebrate their 35th anniversary they are embarking on strategic change and opportunity, and now seek a Marketing and Communications Manager to work closely with the CEO and Head of Income Generation to lead, develop and deliver the overall marketing and comms strategy.

From memorable visits to Lapland, meeting a favourite celebrity or even visiting Abba Voyage, the charity is inspired by the children they support, and are more ambitious than ever to grow, reach more children across the UK, and continue delivering life-changing moments that truly matter.

Central to telling the stories that inspire, uplift, and drive support for their work, the Marketing and Communications Manager will strong digital marketing skills and experience, alongside a genuine heart, creativity, and ambition.

The successful candidate will:

  • Demonstrated experience in developing and delivering effective marketing and communications strategies, including setting and evaluating KPIs tailored to diverse audience groups.
  • Proficient in using digital tools and analytics to manage and optimise communications, with a strong track record across multiple social media platforms and successful multi-channel campaigns.
  • Strong background in charity communications, including oversight of digital media channels, brand development, audience engagement, media relations, and content creation.
  • Excellent written communication skills, with proven ability in copywriting, editing, and tailoring messaging for various audiences, channels, and purposes.
  • Solid understanding of GDPR and its application to communications, with experience in managing brand integrity, reputational risk, and stakeholder relationships.
  • A track record of creating successful fundraising and/or donor cultivation materials, or similar, and a good level of financial literacy and budget management is desirable but not a deal breaker.
