Overview

Market Risk Manager – Department: Risk and Compliance • Location: London • Employment Type: Permanent

Responsibilities
  • Serving as a member of the Risk Committee; challenging the Group's trading limits and leading quarterly meetings as Chair
  • Supporting the Market Risk team to deliver accurate and timely daily risk reports, dashboards and commentary
  • Ownership of consolidated Group position and MTM reports which transparently summarise all market risk exposures arising from the business's trading and hedging activities
  • Challenge marking methodologies across the Group to ensure commercially meaningful reports
  • Use initiative and lateral thinking to identify gaps in and develop/implement reports to increase transparency for stakeholders in the business
  • Collaboration with Trading and Commercial teams
  • Working closely with Finance managers to facilitate and support the reconciliation of middle office P&L figures with the monthly financial accounts
  • Collaborate with Business Analysts to drive the development and implementation of the TriplePoint ETRM system
  • Ad hoc tasks as required to support the Risk team and the wider business

  • Effective communication with everyone in the team - listening, inspiring and flexing approach as appropriate
  • Delegating and empowering the team
  • Coaching and quality feedback to all team members
  • Quality and fair PRP performance reviews and ensure the write-ups on time

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Essential:

  • Can demonstrate a deep understanding of commodity markets
  • Proven management experience in a similar role
  • Proficiency in using MS Excel to an advanced level
  • Experience working with front-office and back-office teams in a dynamic trading environment
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence traders and senior stakeholders
  • Highly analytical and meticulous with strong quantitative skills
  • Commitment to getting the job done and deliver objectives
  • Entrepreneurially minded with an enthusiastic approach to develop the role and drive change
  • Control mind set, demonstrate the confidence to challenge decisions and hold up the mirror to business activities ensuring they are transparently reported
  • Strong commercial acumen and ability to interpret market developments quickly.

Desirable:

  • Previous physical oil/products market risk experience
  • Experience of working with an Energy Trading and Risk Management (ETRM) system (preferably Triple Point CXL)
  • Accounting qualification
