Maritime Solution Architect

Location: UK South Coast based, with flexibility to work from home depending on business demand

Role Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled and security-cleared Maritime Solution Architect to lead the architecture and design of modern systems and digital solutions for maritime defence capabilities and platforms.

You will have extensive experience in the defence industry, with specific expertise in maritime systems, architectures, mission systems, and C4ISR integration, along with an understanding of platform design and architecture.

This role involves developing capability roadmaps, scoping technology integration, and engaging with customers to position Leidos as a leader in Maritime Defence using cutting-edge technology. You will collaborate with engineering, delivery, business development, and customer teams to ensure solutions meet operational needs.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Lead the architecture and design of military maritime solutions, including combat systems, communications, navigation, and integrated platform management systems.
  2. Translate operational and capability requirements into system designs.
  3. Engage with military stakeholders, engineering teams, partners, and subcontractors to define and validate architectures and roadmaps.
  4. Ensure solutions comply with military standards, safety, and security requirements (e.g., DEF STAN, STANAG, MIL-STD).
  5. Support bid and proposal efforts through solution architecture, technical writing, and costing.
  6. Conduct trade studies and design reviews to assess system performance and interoperability.
  7. Provide governance and oversight to ensure architectural alignment across engineering delivery.
  8. Stay updated on emerging technologies and industry trends, including uncrewed systems, advanced communications, and AI.

Required Skills and Experience:

  1. Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, or related field.
  2. Significant experience in solution or systems architecture within defence and maritime domains.
  3. Strong understanding of naval platforms and mission requirements.
  4. Experience with C4ISR, weapon systems integration, or naval command systems.
  5. Knowledge of systems engineering lifecycle, MBSE, and digital twin concepts.
  6. Hands-on experience with architecture frameworks (e.g., MODAF, NAF, TOGAF) and tools (e.g., Sparx EA, Cameo).
  7. Understanding of cybersecurity, safety, and information assurance in defence systems.
  8. Strong stakeholder management and leadership skills.
  9. SC clearance minimum.

Skills Desired:

  • Experience with multinational defence programs or NATO standards.
  • Knowledge of shipbuilding, ILS, and lifecycle sustainment.
  • Exposure to AI, autonomy, or edge computing in maritime contexts.

Clearance Requirements:

  • Pre-screening to start BPSS.
  • Clearance for Role SC.
