Flying Fish is seeking a Maritime Instructor to join our Cowes team. The role combines practical instruction, mentoring and equipment maintenance, with training delivered on and off the water.

You will work alongside the Operations Manager and instructor team to provide engaging, safe training for students pursuing maritime and superyacht careers. Weekend work is required as part of a rolling rota.

Flying Fish is looking for a motivated Maritime Instructor to join our friendly team in Cowes.

Flying Fish is a maritime training provider based in Cowes on the Isle of Wight. We help people begin and develop successful careers in the maritime and superyacht industries through professional, practical and engaging training. Our courses combine internationally recognised qualifications with real-world industry knowledge, giving our students the skills, confidence and support they need to take their next step. We are a friendly, close-knit team that takes pride in delivering high-quality training and creating a positive experience for every student.

This is a varied, hands-on role combining practical instruction, student mentoring and equipment maintenance. You will deliver training both on and off the water, helping students develop the skills and confidence they need to begin careers in the maritime and superyacht industries.

You will work closely with our Operations Manager and wider instructor team to deliver safe, engaging and professional training.

The role

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering RYA courses and Flying Fish bespoke training, including:
  • RYA Powerboat Level 2
  • Personal Watercraft training
  • Yacht maintenance
  • Ropework
  • Delivering MCA-approved courses, subject to your qualifications
  • Delivering presentations about the maritime and superyacht industries
  • Mentoring and supporting students throughout their training
  • Assisting with the maintenance of our RIBs, yachts and training equipment
  • Helping maintain high standards of safety, instruction and customer service
Working pattern

This is a full-time position working an average of five days per week across a rolling two-week rota.

This is a full-time role based on a rolling two-week rota. Weekend work is required, but we aim to provide every other weekend off.

About you

We are looking for someone who has:

  • A positive and professional attitude
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • A good understanding of IT
  • The ability to inspire, motivate and support students
  • Relevant experience within the maritime industry

Teaching experience and instructor qualifications are desirable, but not essential for someone with appropriate maritime experience and a positive attitude towards career development.

Desirable qualifications and experience include:

  • Teaching or coaching experience
  • Knowledge of the superyacht industry
  • RYA Powerboat Instructor
  • RYA Personal Watercraft Instructor
  • RYA Marine Radio (VHF) Instructor
  • RYA Yachtmaster Power with Commercial Endorsement
  • RYA Yachtmaster Theory Instructor
