Job summary

National Oceanography Centre, Southampton, is seeking an electronics-focused engineer to support the Marine Facilities Programme. You will deploy on expeditions and shipyard maintenance up to 90 days per year, operating ship scientific systems.

You will lead or support upgrades, learn areas of responsibility, present at conferences, collaborate with scientists worldwide, and develop your career toward professional registration. Hybrid role with 37 hours/week and a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications

• Background in electronics.
• Willingness to deploy on expeditions and shipyard maintenance up to 90 days per year.
• Ability to operate and maintain sensors, instruments, hardware and software.

Responsibilities

• Lead or support the upgrade or introduction of scientific systems, from initial consultation with scientists through to installation on the ships.
• Take part in outreach events and present at conferences in the UK and abroad.
• Meet and work with scientists from around the world while supporting their objectives at sea.
• Develop your career and build evidence to support professional registration.
• Co-leading the operation and development of seismics and geophysical survey systems.
