This could be the role for you!
SLR Recruitment are working with Gosport Ferry to find a hands‑on Marine Fitter / Marine Engineer to join their small, dedicated engineering team.
With 144 crossings every day, Gosport Ferry relies on its engineering team to keep everything running safely and reliably. Looking after three ferries, two passenger piers and several shore‑based properties, there's plenty of variety to keep you busy.
This is a business that takes pride in doing the job right, first time. Offering long‑term stability, a permanent position and the opportunity to develop your skills, it's a great opportunity for an engineer looking to put down roots and build a lasting career.
The best bit? You don't have to come from a marine background!
If you've got solid mechanical engineering experience in heavy goods vehicles, commercial vehicles or a similar environment, Gosport Ferry is happy to consider your transferable skills and provide training.
Working from the Gosport Ferry maintenance workshop, you'll play an important part in keeping the fleet and facilities in top condition.
You’ll work as part of a small, close‑knit team of three engineers/fitters and an electrician, within a business of just 27 people. The team works to structured rosters split between the summer and winter seasons, so flexibility and being comfortable with standby and on‑call duties are essential.
There may also be opportunities to support summer excursions as an onboard engineer.
Around five years’ experience would be ideal, but Gosport Ferry is happy to discuss candidates with different levels of experience if they have the right skills and attitude.
Experience with marine engines, propulsion systems, electrical installations, welding or fabrication would be beneficial.
The business is also planning to take on an apprentice engineer next September, so experience of mentoring an apprentice or having completed an apprenticeship yourself would be a real advantage.
A 30‑minute lunch break and two 20‑minute tea breaks are included as part of the working day.
The role is based at Gosport Ferry’s maintenance workshop in Gosport, PO12 1AJ.
If you're a practical engineer who enjoys variety, takes pride in doing a job properly and wants a stable, long‑term role within a close‑knit team,
Marine experience isn't essential.. the right engineering skills and attitude could be what matters most!
