We require a Marine Engineering Operations Manager to join our Marine client in Falkirk for a full-time, permanent position. In this role, you will work on a rota, which includes weekends and bank holidays, as well as providing standby and call-out cover.
As a Marine Engineering Operations Manager, you will manage the Marine Technicians and Operatives, ensuring the highest level of customer service. The ability to diagnose and resolve issues with diesel engines, electrical systems, and plumbing within the fleet is essential.
THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT
Essential:
- Full UK driving licence
- Qualified engineer/technician with HNC/HND/City & Guilds or equivalent in Mechanical, Electrical, or Marine Engineering
- Narrowboat or canal knowledge
- Diesel engine expertise
- Fault diagnosis and repair skills, capable of working independently
- Hydraulic system knowledge
- Good communication skills
- Excellent customer care skills
- Experience with steering & propulsion systems
- Eberspacher hydronic heating system knowledge
- Experience with 12V & 240V systems
- Welding skills
- Plumbing knowledge and fault-finding skills
- Painting experience
Preferred:
- Narrowboat handling skills
- Boat master/Helmsman license
- Awareness of heritage and environmental issues, such as invasive vegetation
JOB DESCRIPTION
- Lead and motivate a team of Bankside Operations Staff, including recruitment, performance reviews, training, and development planning. Manage absences, rota scheduling, and communicate business issues effectively. Ensure adherence to budgets and processes.
- Raise purchase orders following organizational procedures.
- Maintain high standards for fleet maintenance, inspections, safety, cleanliness, security, and customer service at Bankside.
- Be available for call-outs to attend to fleet breakdowns.
- Meet requirements for Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM).
- Manage and deliver the winter works program for the fleet.
- Oversee the use and maintenance of vehicles, floating plant, and equipment.
- Minimize customer disruption by following stoppage procedures.
- Promote health and safety, conducting risk assessments, and reporting incidents.
- Ensure safe equipment use, review risk assessments, and conduct staff meetings.
- Ensure compliance with legislation and deliver on franchise agreements.
- Organize winter maintenance and boat safety inspections.
REMUNERATION PACKAGE ON OFFER
Salary of £38,000 – £42,500 per annum, including allowances. Starting salary of £34,165 (Band D).
