We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Marine Engineer Operations Manager to join our Falkirk Hire Boats team at the Falkirk Wheel. You will oversee the FHB Marine Technician and FHB Operatives, ensuring high-quality customer service. The role requires diagnosing and resolving diesel engine, electrical, and plumbing issues within the Holiday Boat hire fleet.

This is a permanent position with a starting salary of £34,165 (Band D). Working hours are 35 hours per week, including weekends and bank holidays, with standby and call-out duties.

Primary responsibilities of the role:
  • Lead and motivate a team of Bankside Operations Staff, including recruitment, performance reviews, training, and communication of business issues.
  • Maintain fleet standards, safety, cleanliness, and customer care at Bankside.
  • Attend to breakdowns and ensure effective maintenance and inspections.
  • Manage vehicles, floating plant, and equipment.
  • Minimize customer disruption by adhering to stoppage procedures.
  • Promote health and safety, conduct risk assessments, and ensure compliance with legislation.
  • Deliver on franchise agreements and organize maintenance programs.
Qualifications and knowledge required:
  • Full UK driving license
  • Qualified engineer/technician with HNC/HND/City & Guilds or equivalent in Mechanical, Electrical, or Marine Engineering
  • Narrowboat or canal knowledge
Skills and experience required:

  • Diesel engine expertise

  • Good communication and customer care skills
  • Experience with steering, propulsion, heating systems, electrical systems, welding, plumbing, and painting
