Job summary

An opportunity has arisen for a Marine Engineer to join the Harbour Master’s Team at Cardiff Harbour Authority. You will be responsible for maintaining and repairing a fleet of specialist work vessels. Candidates with marine engineering qualifications and relevant experience are strongly encouraged to apply. This is a full-time, permanent position requiring a valid driving license and the ability to work under various conditions.

Job description

Cardiff Harbour Authority (CHA) was established on 1st April 2000 and took over the responsibilities of Cardiff Bay Development Corporation as set out in the Cardiff Bay Barrage Act 1993. In doing so the Harbour Authority performs the statutory Harbour Authority functions on behalf of Cardiff Council.

The Harbour Master team operate a small fleet of specialist work vessels used to ensure the statutory functions the Harbour Authority are met and safety of navigation is maintained within the Harbour limits.

About the job

An opportunity has arisen for a Marine Engineer to work within the Harbour Master’s Team at Cardiff Harbour Authority.

Reporting to the Harbour Master, you will be responsible for maintaining, servicing and repairing Harbour Authority vessels and associated equipment and structures.

What We Are Looking For From You

The successful candidate will have a marine engineering qualification as well as experience of working on small diesel and outboard engines and experience of maintaining and servicing small commercial vessels.

Whilst Marine engineering qualifications are extremely desirable; we also welcome applications from individuals with transferable qualifications from the Automotive, Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV) and Aviation sectors; as well as qualifications gained with the Armed Forces.

The successful candidate will also be self motivated and able to work alone and in a small team and have the communication skills to be able to deal effectively with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.

You will have good oral and written communication skills, be computer-literate with familiarity in word processing and spreadsheet applications.

You will also be required to work under pressure, to tight deadlines and the role will require working in dirty, cold and wet conditions, in confined spaces, at height and on the water.

Additional information

A full and valid driving licence is an essential requirement for this role.

This vacancy is suitable for post share.
