Job description

We are currently looking for a Manufacturing Tooling Engineer to be based at our customer site in Cheltenham.


This role requires a combination of in-depth technical knowledge and practical experience in aerospace tooling and fixtures manufacturing processes, along with skills in leadership, communication, and problem-solving.


The tools designed are required to be documented by CAD drawings according to business standards; therefore, a good knowledge of CAD drawing systems is required. Because it is linked to EHS policies, experience with mechanical analysis and materials to ensure compliance is necessary.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Tooling Engineer, under the direction of the Manufacturing Engineering Manager, is responsible for:

  1. Identifying, developing, evaluating, designing, improving, and documenting all tooling and fixtures according to their manufacturing processes, characteristics, and requirements from concept, final design, manufacturing, testing, and validation phases.
  2. Developing and implementing process control techniques including work instructions for tooling and fixtures. This will include, but not be limited to, the use of capability studies, Statistical Process Control (SPC), Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA), etc., and ensuring accurate documentation of tool drawings and manufacturing outputs.
  3. Analysing manufacturing process flows continually for enhancements in quality, cost reduction, and lead-time reduction for new work impacted by tooling and fixtures.
  4. Evaluating manufacturing processes that require related fixtures and tooling that are consistent with zero defect level and low product cost for enhancements in quality, cost reduction, and lead-time reduction.
  5. Facilitating continuous improvement events in support of Value Streams (VS) & Business Process Improvements (BPI) to improve current tools and fixtures.
  6. Supporting company policies and procedures, goals and objectives, good manufacturing practices, and maintaining a safe EHS and clean work environment by respecting company policies and educating and directing personnel on the use of all tooling and fixtures.
  7. Managing performance against agreed goals, being accountable for quality, on-time delivery, budget, and conducting cost/benefit analysis for tooling and fixtures.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum 3+ years of tooling manufacturing/design/engineering aerospace practical experience and a minimum High National Certification in Mechanical Engineering Technology.


High ethical standards. Models and supports organisation's goals and values; adapts to changing conditions; admits mistakes; is a direct, truthful individual; demonstrates persistence and overcomes obstacles by using solid analytical skills and solution-driven thinking.


Ability to read and interpret technical documents, drawings (ASME, ISO, GD & T, etc.) and technical specifications. Ability to write clearly and informatively routine reports, correspondence, and designs workflows and procedures. Presents numerical data effectively.


Advanced knowledge of CAD (2D & 3D) design software, 3D printing, tooling/fixtures materials (metallic, composites, etc.). Good knowledge of software such as PLM (Windchill), Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other applicable tools.


Ability to manage multiple complex assignments and achieve results due to strong organisational skills with high attention to detail.


Desirable:
  1. Background in Lean Manufacturing
  2. Understanding of AS9100 and ISO 9001
  3. Awareness of measurement and calibration standards
