Job description

The Plant Manager / Factory Operations Manager is working with a UK market leader in the FMCG industry, manufacturing high-volume products with automated processes. The Manufacturing Plant Manager will help transform one of their key factories from good to great, working with a highly willing and enthusiastic team to drive improvements across the plant and develop the site in Basildon.

Highly profitable, the group has undergone significant structural change recently, including leadership shifts, investments, and a strategic goal to increase capacity across their UK supply chain.

Roles and Responsibilities

You will be a proven Operations Manager, Factory Manager, Manufacturing Manager, or Plant Manager, with a track record of delivering improvements in culture, efficiency, and productivity. You understand what world-class looks like and have previously led a business through similar improvement journeys. You can implement improvements, understand associated challenges, and demonstrate measurable results. You recognize the impact of leadership on culture and vice versa.

The leadership culture is mature and accountable. The work-life balance is excellent compared to many manufacturing environments, and there are growth and development opportunities across multiple UK sites due to the organization’s succession planning strategy.

Key Requirements
  • Proven experience managing and developing manufacturing operations in an automated or semi-automated environment
  • Extensive experience using lean and continuous improvement tools (e.g., OEE, TPM, 5S, VSM) to enhance efficiencies and best practices
  • Experience managing budgets and capex
  • Knowledge of engineering maintenance and plant improvements is advantageous but not essential
  • A strong understanding of health and safety, ideally supported by formal qualifications (training can be provided)
