Job description

Futures recruitment are looking for a diligent and quality-focused Manufacturing Inspector to carry out visual inspections throughout the bus manufacturing and assembly process.

The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying defects, workmanship issues and deviations from required quality standards before vehicles progress through production or are released to the customer. This role requires a strong eye for detail, a methodical approach and the confidence to raise quality concerns when standards are not being met.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out detailed visual inspections of buses at defined stages of the manufacturing and assembly process.
  • Inspect interior and exterior components for defects, damage, poor workmanship and incorrect installation.
  • Check areas including body panels, paint and finish, glazing, flooring, seating, trim, fixtures, fittings, doors, access panels and other visible components.
  • Identify issues such as scratches, dents, gaps, misalignment, loose or missing components, contamination, poor finishes and cosmetic defects.
  • Verify that workmanship meets agreed manufacturing specifications, quality standards and customer expectations.
  • Record inspection findings accurately using relevant quality documentation and digital inspection systems.
  • Raise defects and non-conformances clearly, providing sufficient detail to support corrective action.
  • Liaise with Production, Quality and Manufacturing teams to ensure identified defects are understood and addressed.
  • Re-inspect completed rectification work to confirm that defects have been satisfactorily resolved.
  • Support final vehicle inspections and quality sign-off activities where required.
  • Follow inspection checklists, standard operating procedures and quality control processes consistently.
  • Escalate recurring or significant quality concerns to the appropriate Quality or Production representative.
  • Maintain accurate and traceable inspection records.
  • Work safely around vehicles, manufacturing equipment and production activities, complying with all site health and safety requirements.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement by highlighting recurring workmanship issues and opportunities to prevent defects.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong observational skills.
  • Previous experience within manufacturing, automotive, bus, coach, rail, aerospace or a similar production environment.
  • Experience carrying out visual, quality or final inspections would be highly desirable.
  • A good understanding of manufacturing quality and workmanship standards.
  • The ability to identify and clearly describe defects.
  • A methodical and consistent approach to inspections.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Confidence working with production teams to raise quality concerns professionally.
  • Basic IT skills and the ability to complete electronic inspection records.
  • The ability to interpret inspection criteria, specifications, drawings or work instructions where required.
  • A proactive approach to quality and continuous improvement.
  • The ability to work independently while contributing effectively as part of a wider manufacturing team
