Job description

Location: Plymouth (PL6 7LH), onsite role

Reporting to: Maintenance Manager

Job Type: Full time, 6 month fixed term contract.

Job Purpose

To repaint existing machinery to a uniform colour across our production plant.

Key Responsibilities

Surface Preparation:

  • Clean, degrease, and prepare machine surfaces for painting, including sanding, scraping, masking, and priming.
  • Identify and repair surface imperfections (e.g., scratches, dents, or corrosion).
  • Ensure all surfaces are free of contaminants before paint application.

Painting And Coating

  • Apply industrial paints, coatings, and finishes using brushes, or rollers as required.
  • Follow appropriate layering techniques, including primer, basecoat, and topcoat applications.
  • Ensure even application and high-quality finishes for all machinery.

Compliance And Safety

  • Adhere to all safety procedures, including proper ventilation, PPE usage, and hazardous material handling.
  • Work in compliance with regulations and company policies regarding workplace safety.
  • Safely handle and dispose of paint, chemicals, and other materials.

Quality Control

  • Inspect completed work to ensure it meets quality and durability standards.
  • Maintain records of completed tasks, paint usage, and any issues encountered.

Equipment Maintenance

  • Maintain and clean painting equipment such as spray guns, compressors, and brushes.
  • Conduct routine checks on tools and materials to ensure proper function and availability.

Education

  • Educated to GCSE Maths, English

Knowledge And Skills

  • Previous commercial or industrial equipment painting experience would be ideal.
  • Some level of mechanical understanding as the machines are complex.
  • The ideal candidate will have acute attention to detail, be experienced in a range of painting methods and paint types.
  • Have a good eye for colour matching.
  • Willingness to work as a team when required.
  • The ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail.
  • Good hand-to-eye coordination.
  • The ability to follow instructions and keep records as required..
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to all health and safety guidelines at all times.
