Job Title: Manufacturing Engineer – Vehicle Test

Salary: £45,000 - £55,000 depending on experience

Location: Desford, Leicestershire

Contract: Full time & permanent

The Opportunity

Are you a proactive Manufacturing Engineer eager to drive change and innovation? Join our team to integrate vehicle functionality and performance testing into production environments.

You'll work alongside Engineers and Technicians, implementing the latest manufacturing technologies and introducing new machines. Leading innovative projects, you'll collaborate across teams to ensure the seamless launch of world-class products and processes.

What You Will Do

As a Manufacturing Engineer working in vehicle test, your accountabilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and improve vehicle testing infrastructure, methods, and performance using tools such as process flows, Process Failure Modes and Effects Analysis, and control plans.
  • Lead NPI or improvement projects (Technology/Efficiency/Quality) from initiation to completion, overseeing scope, budgets, resources, and execution.
  • Develop test equipment specifications, ensure safe installation, and drive technology advancements while maintaining compliance with industry standards and customer requirements.
  • Diagnose and resolve electrical and mechanical vehicle system issues, execute test plans, procedures, and protocols, and ensure quality and performance standards.
  • Work closely with engineering teams and stakeholders to implement best manufacturing practices, optimise design for manufacturing (DFM), and enhance lean processes.

What You Can Demonstrate

Extensive Experience In

  • Manufacturing Processes: Knowledge of existing product manufacturing methods, technologies and processes; ability to execute, plan, manage and monitor the entire manufacturing process.
  • Project Management: Knowledge of effective project management strategies and tactics; ability to plan, organize, monitor, budgets and control projects, ensuring efficient utilization of technical and administrative resources to achieve project targets.
  • Manufacturing Safety: Knowledge of manufacturing safety; ability to identify work-related hazards and perform necessary activities to meet regulatory requirements for the safety and protection of workers, environment and site.

Expert Level In

  • Judgment and Decision Making: Knowledge of process; ability to carefully evaluate the impact of emerging business situations and choose the best path forward communicating actions and activities that maximize organizational performance.
  • Problem Management Process - MFG: Knowledge of manufacturing problem management processes, methodologies and techniques; ability to use a disciplined approach to bringing that problem to a successful resolution

Experience Of

  • Lean Manufacturing: Knowledge of the philosophy, fundamentals and implementation approaches of lean manufacturing; ability to integrate and implement lean manufacturing philosophy into existing production and management processes.

What You May Have

  • Experience in data acquisition systems and data analysis for vehicle testing.
  • Experience implementing automated/robotic solutions in a test or assembly environment
  • Good understanding of vehicle testing processes.
  • Working knowledge of Siemens Teamcenter would be advantageous
  • Experience of leading quality concern resolution with tools such as 8D, 5why, fishbone diagrams, and other appropriate quality tools.
  • 6 Sigma project leadership experience.
  • Experience with Vector CANape, Catman, and SoMat TCE is desirable as it may significantly reduce training or transition time.
  • Degree or equivalent experience required.
