Sitting across our three business lines: Civil, Defence, and Engines at our East Cowes manufacturing plants, you’ll do just that. Established in 1901, our East Cowes site on the Isle of Wight is one of our older production facilities, with a workforce of around 800 employees. Our plants, Falcon Yard, Ferry Road and Osborne Site, Saunders Way, design, manufacture, test, and repair high-performance structures and systems. Our customer base includes Airbus, BAE Systems, Boeing, Bombardier, Cessna, Cobham, Honeywell, Leonardo, Lockheed Martin, Rolls Royce, and Triumph.

Due to an exciting period of growth, we are seeking experienced Manufacturing Engineers, specializing in Product and Planning, to join our thriving team on the Isle of Wight.

Based at our East Cowes site and reporting to the Manufacturing Engineer Manager, the Manufacturing Engineer will work across both Civil and Defence Business lines. You will provide engineering expertise to operational and development programs to enable and deliver zero defect projects, utilizing engineering and problem-solving skills. You will be responsible for delivering robust manufacturing process technology related to materials, tooling, part fabrication, and assembly.

Flexibility for limited ad-hoc travel, both nationally and internationally, is required. You will join an engineering department of 6-10 Manufacturing Engineers. Relocation support within the UK to the Isle of Wight will be provided to successful applicants.

Job Responsibilities

  • Exemplify a safety-first mindset and ensure compliance with GKN Aerospace Health, Safety, and Environmental policies and standards.
  • Develop manufacturing process solutions to complex problems.
  • Implement production planning from concept to production, designing processes with high process capability using GKN’s Zero Defect Manufacturing (ZDM) tools.
  • Manage product development, first article development, configuration changes, build process definition, and implementation.
  • Develop technical solutions for complex problems within GKN Aerospace, our customers, and suppliers.
  • Provide technical support for manufacturing process development and integration.
  • Use root cause analysis, preventative, and corrective actions to reduce non-conformances.
  • Maintain positive relationships with internal and external customers and co-workers.
  • Continuously improve production processes through Lean initiatives.
  • Apply APQP tools for problem solving.

Qualifications and Experience

  • HNC qualification or equivalent in an engineering-related subject or higher.
  • Experience in a Manufacturing Engineering role within a composites manufacturing environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge of quality systems such as ISO9000, AS9100, or D1-9000.
  • Background in Aerospace industry.
  • Experience in Project/Program Management.
  • Familiarity with AS9145 APQP process or equivalent.
  • Understanding and use of ERP systems.
  • Green Belt Certification.

This role requires UK National Security Vetting (UKNSV) Security clearance (SC). Applicants typically need to have resided in the UK for at least 5 years.
