Job summary

Leonardo S.p.A. in Southampton is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to join the Mechanical Assembly Process Engineering team.

The role supports infra-red detector assemblies in a cutting-edge setting, balancing hands-on work with desk-based activities and career development opportunities. You will train staff, monitor yields and process times, investigate defects, and drive improvements across multiple processes including mechanical assembly and inspection.

Qualifications

• Hands-on manufacturing experience.
• Ability to train manufacturing staff and update management on progress.
• Experience with defect investigation and yield optimisation.
• Familiarity with TPM, 5S and continuous improvement.
• Ability to write process instructions and monitor equipment performance.

Responsibilities

• Train manufacturing staff to perform processes correctly.
• Monitor yields, defects & process times.
• Investigate defects and yield issues in manufacturing processes.
• Define and carry out re-work processes as required.
• Define routine TPM tasks and process checks.
• Suggest and implement process improvements.
• Write process instructions.
• Monitor equipment performance including SPC.
• Run new capital equipment projects.
• Conduct root cause analysis.
