Job Title: Manufacturing Engineer - Heat Treatment

Location: Derby

An exciting opportunity for a Heat Treatment Manufacturing Engineer has arisen within the Primary Components Operations (PCO) business. Our nuclear business is a leader in propulsion system design and development for the Royal Navy's nuclear submarine fleet, managing all aspects of plant design, safety, manufacture, performance, and through-life support.

As a Manufacturing Engineer - Heat Treatment, you will be responsible for providing technical ownership of heat treatment processes, delivering components through pre/post weld heat treatment, writing technical instructions for setups, applying process control, ensuring cost-effective manufacturing, and developing capabilities to meet customer and business requirements.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Generating technical packages for the shop floor to ensure compliance with specifications and design requirements, including furnace programmes, data cards, procedures, and technical instructions.
  2. Using Build in Quality tools like process maps, PFMEAs, and control plans.
  3. Overseeing furnace operations, resolving issues, and providing technical oversight.
  4. Developing process capability and delivering new equipment.
  5. Planning projects aligned with requirements.

Candidate requirements:

  • Degree qualified or relevant industry experience.
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes relevant to the business.
  • Analytical skills for data interrogation, experimental trials, and problem-solving.
  • Passion for improving heat treatment processes.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to influence.
  • NADCAP accreditation is desirable.
