Job summary

Orion Electrotech Ltd is seeking a Senior Manufacturing Engineer to establish the UK manufacturing operation, developing processes and systems for future aircraft production in a high‑growth aerospace/defence setting. The role is hands‑on, combining manufacturing engineering with process development, industrialisation and continuous improvement.

You will lead process transfers, support NPI, drive root cause investigations and work with cross‑functional teams to raise manufacturing capability on

Qualifications

• Hands-on SMT, through-hole and harness assembly experience.
• Experience applying IPC‑A‑610 and IPC/WHMA‑A‑620 standards in production.
• Experience in AS9100/ISO9001 or similar regulated environments.
• NPI, industrialisation and process validation for electronic assemblies.
• Experience producing manufacturing docs, work instructions and controls.

Responsibilities

• Develop and improve SMT, through-hole and harness assembly processes.
• Lead transfer of established electronics manufacturing processes into the Swindon facility.
• Support NPI activities and transition electronic assemblies to repeatable volume production.
• Lead root cause investigations and implement corrective actions to improve performance.
• Collaborate with Product Engineering, Production, Quality and Supply Chain to drive excellence.

The Company

Looking for the opportunity to play a key role in establishing a brand-new UK manufacturing operation?

We're working with a leading provider of unmanned technology operating across defence, security, aerospace and advanced technology sectors. As a Senior Manufacturing Engineer, you'll join the business at an exciting stage of growth, helping to develop the manufacturing processes, standards and systems that will support future UK aircraft production.

This Senior Manufacturing Engineer role offers the rare opportunity to combine hands‑on manufacturing engineering with process development, industrialisation and continuous improvement within a high‑growth aerospace and defence environment.

Role and Responsibilities

As a Senior Manufacturing Engineer, your key responsibilities will include:

• Developing and improving SMT, through‑hole and harness assembly manufacturing processes
• Leading the transfer of established electronics manufacturing processes into the Swindon facility
• Supporting NPI activities and transitioning electronic assemblies into repeatable volume production
• Leading root cause investigations and implementing corrective actions to improve manufacturing performance
• Working closely with Product Engineering, Production, Quality and Supply Chain teams to drive manufacturing excellence and process improvements

This Senior Manufacturing Engineer position is highly hands‑on and will see you spending significant time on the shop floor, supporting operators, solving production challenges and improving manufacturing capability.

Key Requirements

To be considered for this Senior Manufacturing Engineer role, you will need:

• Hands‑on experience with SMT, through‑hole and harness assembly manufacturing processes
• Experience applying IPC‑A-610 and IPC/WHMA-A-620 standards within a production environment
• Experience within an AS9100, ISO9001 or similar regulated manufacturing environment
• NPI, industrialisation and process validation experience for electronic assemblies
• Experience producing manufacturing documentation, work instructions and process controls
• Eligibility to obtain UK Security Clearance (SC) and BPSS clearance

Experience within defence, aerospace, avionics or other highly regulated manufacturing environments would be advantageous.
